About Betsy Powell:
Betsy Powell grew up in a small town in North Alabama in a family full of Auburn alumni. It's rumored that her first words sounded a lot like "War Eagle!" When Betsy moved from Paducah, KY to Lexington, she was already familiar with the excitement surrounding SEC sports and quickly jumped on the University of Kentucky fan wagon. She and her husband, Patrick, are avid UK fans and are proud to be a part of the Big Blue Nation.
Betsy's interest in real estate began 34 years ago when she bought her first older home and began updating it with earnest and elbow grease. After quickly selling that home she realized that she had an "eye" for houses that needed a little TLC. She spent the next 25 years adding her special touch to neglected homes and selling them for profit. She likes to say that she was "flipping" houses before HGTV coined the phrase.
After moving to Lexington, Betsy decided to try the other side of real estate. Both buyers and sellers can greatly benefit from Betsy's experience and talent. She is quickly able to assess what sellers need to do to their home to bring top dollar. Buyers can benefit because she is often able to see potential in a home that others might not recognize and can help clients find a diamond in the rough. Her combined love for people and houses make her a great real estate agent.
Helping to build a strong community is a top priority for Betsy. She actively supports The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge New Life Day Center for the homeless and Bluegrass Christian Camp. She also volunteers with a program, through her church, called Friendspeak, where she helps UK's Chinese doctoral and post-doc students learn English and she serves on the Women's Ministry Committee.
She is a supporter of Live Beyond, a hospital and outreach program that began in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, by two of her classmates from Abilene Christian University. One of her dreams is to take a week to go to Haiti and serve alongside her friends.
Betsy enjoys spending time on Kentucky Lake with family and friends; she also enjoys gardening, painting, reading and needlepoint. She has a daughter and son-in-law that live in Nashville, TN. She has a 10 year old terrier mix, with whom she has a love/hate relationship, 2 grand-dogs, a grand-cat and 2 grand-horses who reside at Infinity Stables in Simpsonville, KY.
