Tips to Keep Your HVAC Running Smoothly

Coming home to a cool house at the end of a long day outside is a feeling that we can all appreciate! During the summer months, it’s nice to know your air conditioning is running smoothly and at full capacity. So we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you accomplish that.

  1. Be sure to keep your landscaping at least 18 inches away from your outdoor air-conditioner at all times to ensure proper airflow.
  2. Check your furnace filter to be sure it is clean. A 1 inch air filter is not meant to be used indoor air quality- it’s main purpose is to protect the motor and fan on the furnace. If you do choose a 1 inch filter, be sure that you can see through it. The best filter for indoor air quality is a 4 inch filter cabinet. Also, be aware that “super filters” that stop all dust, stop all air as well. Ultimately choking your air-conditioning system.
  3. If you have performed both tips and your air-conditioner is still running slow and not running at a full capacity, an old trick to help you get through the heat it to place a sprinkler on your air-conditioner and let the water do all the work to keep it cool. It may not be the best water saving measure, but it will definitely help your air-conditioner.
