Your February Home Selling Tips

When it comes to selling your home, common belief dictates that the best time to list your property is during the summer and spring seasons. There are several reasons for this. First of all, the weather makes it a much nicer time of the year to drive around looking at different properties. Secondly, families with kids have an easier time scheduling their house hunting excursions during the summers. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t sell your home in the winter. In fact, selling your home in February can provide you with one big advantage – you won’t have as much competition. The following are a few home selling tips that will increase the odds of selling your home in the month of February:

Selling in February

Make Sure Your Home is Well Lit

February is a month that tends to see a lot of overcast skies. The days are also much shorter, which means it grows darker earlier. This means that there is going to be less light shining into your home. When a homebuyer walks into your home, they don’t want that gloomy atmosphere outside to continue inside. Open up all your blinds and curtains to make sure that you get as much natural light as possible into your home. Doing so will also open up your home to some scenic views – especially if it has been snowing recently. Wipe down your windows so that there’s no dirt and grime blocking out sunlight and turn on all of your home’s lights before visitors arrive. You don’t want them walking into a dark house, since this doesn’t create a very inviting impression.

Create a Cozy Atmosphere

It’s cold in February, so create a warm and cozy atmosphere inside to make homebuyers feel more comfortable. There are a number of ways that you can do this. First of all, make sure the indoor temperature is warm. Have a place where homebuyers can take off their coats and winter gear so that they can walk around without being all bundled up. If you have a fireplace, make use of it! Nothing makes a home feel cozier than having a fire going.

To battle the cold colors of winter, add warm colors to your interior design through the use of pillows, blankets, and area rugs. All of these items also help add visual warmth to your space due to the fact that they add physical warmth as well. Another great touch is to bake some cookies in the oven. The scent of baked cookies will help add to the homey feel of your house.

Clear Out Snow and Ice

Just because a layer of snow sits on your property, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about your home’s curb appeal. Making homebuyers trudge through the snow in order to get to your door isn’t going to put them in good spirits, which is going to affect how they view your home. Some homebuyers may simply decide not to bother if they see that your sidewalk isn’t clear of snow. Make sure that you shovel the snow out of your driveway and off of your walking paths – and don’t forget to check for slick spots either. The very last thing you want is for a homebuyer to slip on a patch of ice and injure themselves!
